Even though...
I'm still at work and probably will be well into the morning hours;
I've got 24 hours to make one of those annoyingly large life-altering decisions;
I'm running on almost no sleep and this pattern is bound to continue;
I've eaten nothing but Wheat Thins all day;
I am still smiling like a goofy idiot.
Why?
Because New Mexico abolished the death penalty and one of the best girls I know is sporting a classy diamond on the most important of fingers.
Life's about balance.

She's the best of everything.
I know, I know. Imma bad blogger. But I work a lot. About the only thing I want to do when I get home is eat. Then preferably see an amazing person that will let me whine about work for a few hours, then go to bed. It's 9:30. Guess where I am? If you said in bed, you're correct.
But, on with blog.

How I watched Obama Day.
If this picture does not indicate where I work, then... Bad New Mexican! Bad! No, actually working there is the first time I've been in the Capitol in years. WHOOPS. Did I type that?!?
New job is going pretty alright. People seem to want to give me fancy job titles that, in all actuality, don't mean a whole lot. I got "promoted" from what I thought my original job would be. That means I make more money, but I seem to have an almost identical job. People tell me that'll change in a month or so, but I'm skeptical. People always seem to tell me my job is going to be a lot more than it actually is. Am I really good at avoiding work or...?
I will tell you that's it's super awesome to hear the older women in this place talk about how excited they were to vote for Obama. Makes my heart glow.
Commute is still balls. The train's been on time, but that doesn't stop the fact I have to be up early. For the most part, I feel like early is early. If I've got to be up prior to 8am, it's early. But, 5:15am... that's a whole nother early. I guess I'll just spend the next two months of my life super tired. I'm not proud to say that Starbucks has become my morning BFF. I feel like butt if I don't have some kind of caffeine before I get on the train. And drinking Dr. Pepper prior to 10am just doesn't feel right.
BUT. HEY. What happens when you get trapped in an ice storm?

You drink a lot of Lost Lake. That's what.
I'll be honest and tell you that ice storm sort of ruled. I mean, I got an involuntary vacation. I got oh so lucky in getting stuck with Chelsey. She and I have pretty much the exact idea of fun, which is hanging out on a couch and watching game shows. Then, when you get bored with that, you throw ice balls at neighbors you don't like. Then, when you get bored with that, you walk to Walgreens and buy a Snuggie.

No really, we had a super good time.

This is what Ice Storm looks like.
Sort of. This is ice that's melted off a roof and crashed into ice that hasn't melted on the ground. Just imagine everything in your world. Now, put a sheet of ice on top of it. That's an ice storm.
This postsecret, as previously posted about, has proved to be one of the biggest catalysts of change I have ever witnessed. I think we, as New Mexicans, have all thought about it. Now, a lot of us seem to be doing it; sort of a mass exodus. It's really exciting and intense, the thought of leaving. But, I think coming home is just as big of a rush, regardless of how long I've been gone. I told Ashley tonight I was portable. It made a lot of sense.
Speaking of change, I decided it was time for some. Out of thin air, and a bit of luck, I visited Emily Stone at her first official day of hair cutting at Casa Verde and she took off a good six inches. I absolutely love it. I had no idea there was actual hair under all that death and damage. I also spent a lot of money on Aveda products, in an attempt to look, feel and smell better (that stuff smells sooooo good). AND I booked an herbal salt glow at Betty's. The point is, if I'm going to be working so much, I need to take care of myself. I feel better already.
Now. If only a museum would hire me...

I know we're all super excited to see Milk, but if I were you, I would not go see it in a Cinemark theater. It's showing at High Ridge, though.

Lifting me higher and higher

The Bad:
"95 percent of California precincts reporting, the anti-same sex marriage ballot initiative known as Proposition 8 had 52 percent of the vote but was still considered too close to call. Arizona and Florida voters approved similar proposals to enshrine a ban on same sex marriage in their state constitutions... Early results showed voters in Arkansas supporting a proposal to bar unmarried couples from adopting or acting as foster parents, which critics said was unfairly aimed at gays."
The Ugly:
If you know where I work, you can only imagine. But I'm so full of hope, it can't bother me.

Function Check Required.
I got to go up on the roof of Spirit last night. Pretty awesome.
Not even upset about working this weekend. While it's going to prove to be brutal, I'm at the El Rey both tonight and tomorrow night, at office today, and at Spirit tomorrow morning. Both El Rey events are going to rule. Tonight is bartending for Cadillac Sky and one of my new favorite local bands and tomorrow is managing for the almighty Django Fest. I'm a little bummed that I'm not bartending the second one, since I made a retarded amount of money last Django Fest, but it'll also be nice to be able to roam around and have some fun. Spirit will be okay on Saturday. It'll be really busy, which makes the time go by quickly. And I'm going to try my hardest to take off Sunday from Spirit, so I can attend the full day of boyfriend Birthday activities, which include zoo that I'm really excited about, and dinner at his parents, which I'm not nearly as excited about.
But, Bruce-Dog will be there.

This is not cool, by the way.

YAH. UR SOOOO FUNNY. IT RHYTHMS.

Change what exactly?
It's funny to me to listen to conservatives talk right about now. "If Obama wins and this country becomes a socialist state, I'm moving." Where ya goin? Canada? I doubt that one will work out the way it did 8 years ago. Maybe try Iraq since everything's good and democratic over there now. Hey, you'd probably have a better chance at getting a job.
Political nerdity: Early voting's here. Get a sample ballot for your precinct here. There's some really important local races and bonds you should internet it up on. I'm in no position to tell you how to vote, but it probably won't take long for you to make up your mind.

Break your heart and steal your crown.
Welp, my ballot just got cast...
If Jason Bourne says it, then it must be so.
(Don't worry, my ballot was cast a looooooooong time ago.)

Still we lost control.
I hope all of you voted today. Even though I know half of you didn’t. That’s not me being mean, voter turnout is expected to be under 50%. But, Jefferson Middle School was busy this morning when I went. So, prove statistics wrong! Polls are open to 7:00 and I know, I know, you’ve all probably worked a dumbly long day by the time you sit down to read this, but go here to get a sample ballot and figure out where you vote. Then, take five minutes and google and candidate or two, see if you like what they’re doing, and THEN go to whatever school or library you’re supposed to. Trust me, it’s close. They do that for a reason.
I might go count ballots tonight, doesn’t that sound exciting?!? (There is a reason our Geeks Who Drink team dominates political categories, all I’m sayin…)
Out of town ain’t happening for my birthday. Far grander things popped up on the horizon and I pounced, which means I spent just enough this week to ex out Vegas, especially since I would be paying for the trip somewhat exclusively. Hopes of camera for the magical day are also fading fast. But, I still plan on celebrating 24 in style. There are paddle boats on Tingley Beach and this sounds like about the greatest thing ever, as well as a trip to the Natural History Museum. Everyone’s invited! There will also probably be nachos. There are always nachos.

A Track, B Track, C Track.
So, about a week ago, "Democratic Presidential candiate and man who Americans recently realized might be black" (gawker.com) Obama gives this speech about race. And he says some things that people are wow-ing over, drop-dead happy excited about. "The first great speech of the 21st century", even. I'll certainly give Obama credit for how charismatic he is, the man can speak. (Really though, we haven't had much of a presidential standard to look up to). But, what did he really say that we didn't know already?
Good ol governah Beardy says "Senator Obama has started a discussion in this country that is long overdue, and rejects the politics of pitting race against race." What Obama actually said was being a minority sucks. But so does being in the majority. He basically said race issues are lame. He started a conversation happening to Compton and the North East Heights right now. Revolutionary.
I think what people are going crazy about is just the fact Obama said it, we all thought it, we all talked about it, but the next President actually said it. It's terrible that we live in a world where we reward main-stream politicians for being honest. Not to mention the fact the only reason he gave the speech was because his wacko preacher ended up on youtube. And the media coverage, oh, the media coverage it got. All the networks were broadcasting it like a beckon of hope throughout the country-side. Terribly good PR.
Now, I like Obama. I like HIllary too. In fact, the differences between the two of them are so minor, it just makes me laugh that it's such a death match. I will give Obama a lot of credit for not playing the victim. But just how dramatic and excited everyone is about it... not feelin it. In my opinion, his staff has done a pretty decent job victimizing him. He didn't have to say it. I wonder if Hillary would get the same response if she gave a speech about gender. But, she doesn't have to say it either.
This is the campaign of advisors. Samantha Powers, the aid to Obama who called Hillary a "monster" just happens to have a Pulitizer Prize in non-fiction for an incredible book she wrote on genicide. Geraldine Ferraro, the first woman to run for vice president on a democratic ticket, took a lot of heat for, once again, actually saying Obama's a black man. And last but not least, my favorite, Jim Carville (L. Ron Hubbard much?) said "Mr. Richardson’s endorsement (of Obama) came right around the anniversary of the day when Judas sold out for 30 pieces of silver, so I think the timing is appropriate, if ironic.” In. Love.
Thankfully, in the middle of all this, Spencer Pratt started an advice column on radaronline. "I personally would never want to be with a girl who gets so wasted that she's pissing in bed." Good morning.

It makes me feel very hungry and sad.

I try, for the most part, to keep my political opinions to myself on the internet. Mostly because I really hate flammers. It's not because I don't have strong conviction in what I believe in, it's that I really don't feel like getting into any more typed wars with people halfway across the globe. So much drama for no reason. But, it's no secret that I'm a liberal, a proud product and supporter of social programs. I protested the war and believe me, I hate George W. Bush. A whole lot.
Today, I really was genuinely sad today when John Edwards backed out of the race. I liked his platform and I liked him. I was excited to vote for him. I honestly felt about as defeated as that tragic day back in November of 2004. I know he was running out of money and he wasn't gaining much national support. But I really was hoping that he would pull a Kerry and weed his way through the drama and the media coverage surrounding the other candidates.
I don't give a crap about race cards or gender cards, or who Oprah thinks I should vote for. It's all more of the same. I'm not saying that Edwards was some magical go-getter who was above it all. But I think his platform was strong, he had some good ideas. He really was a moderate in what has become a mess of the democratic presidential campaign. So, now it's back my drawing board, figuring out who I want to support now. I think I'll just focus on Tom Udall for a while.
